I camped at Liard Hot Springs, where a tourist was killed by a bear a few years ago. I set up camp, then realized it would be wise to request a bear-proof container. Shortly after this picture was taken, a friendly camp ranger brought a 3x3x3ft bear-proof metal box to my campsite. “This, I thought, “will keep the bears away!” It did, but I spent a long and uncomfortable night crammed into that tiny box. “Damn Canadians!”, I thought, “Who do they make these things for...midgets?”

To make matters worse, it was the same story at other campgrounds. Eventually, it became so uncomfortable that I started sleeping in the tent and storing my food in the metal box, thus totally defeating the purpose of the bear-proof container!
